Dreamweaving in Dreamweaver
Everyone in the world comes across a website at some point in their life. Whether they are going there to find information or get something done, they use the website as a guide.
When we got assigned this website assignment I was excited because it would become my opportunity to get myself on the web in a raw way. What I mean by that is, while I am on the internet through social media and other things like that, I am not there without the middleman being Facebook or Instagram. This assignment put me on the web as me, entirely.
I plan on using my website as a way to promote the kind of work and experience that I have. While my blog is a place where people can come to know a deeper side of my mind, the website allows an overview of the kinds of things I can do. I plan on having it be a virtual portfolio of the kinds of PR work I do as well as photoshop and article writing. In the future when I am applying for jobs, the website can be a vehicle I use to promote my past experience and to showcase that I have some experience with coding.
A part of my website are the links to some of my social media channels. I see that since social media ties in with who I am, it is important to have there be some cross-promotion, that way people can see all the sides of me. This also provides more modes of communication. Social media is essential in any kind of promotion, so having my twitter and blogger connected to the website helps me have all my experience connected and easily accessible for anyone who finds me.
Designing the website at first seemed like a daunting task because I had no experience in any web design, and the web design that I have seen had been so complex looking that I thought I was going to do terrible. The experience was made much easier once I found out that our professor would be giving us a template where we can just input our information and have that be the way we create our new site. I would say the template made the experience a little easier, but the most difficult part would be arranging all the proper documents and getting them web ready. In story, it might not seem like such a difficult task, but actually having to search for these documents and fix them on photoshop and adobe proved to be a headache-inducing experience. My favorite part of the experience would be designing how the website would tie into who I am. I got to choose a header picture/banner. For this, I decided to use the colors of the pride flag. I also enjoyed using hex codes to change the color of the lettering as well as the background. This was also an interesting experience because I never knew that Adobe Dreamweaver makes this experience much easier by providing the user with color wheels to choose colors from.
